Great PreThanksgiving Clubhouse Townhall. Woohoo!

The Recap of the Week & Replay of the Townhall

Steph started with a recap of the rooms. You can listen to that recap by going to the links above or check it out on this blog post by Clubhouse themselves. If that link doesn’t work you can type this in: https://blog.clubhouse.com/clubhouse-best-replays/

For the full replay of this room head on over to the Clubhouse HQ Club page and scroll to the bottom. OR Click HERE

A new club formed by Clubhouse BizOps and as of Today the Creator is Ian Power. “What Just Happened” club was one more that Paul shared beyond the highlights given by Steph. Encouraging people to check out this club – It is like a breaking news club.

Coming soon…

14 More languages being added onto Android then will come on over to iOS.

New Team Mate: Partnerships contact for India – Country Managers. Prior to Clubhouse he worked for TikTok in India. Paul reminisced about when the rooms were starting in the earliest day. Goal: “get quote from Paul for this”

Products – Last Week Release

Started to distribute Replays – Reviewed how they work – Click HERE to see last week’s post for more about that. Now Replays are showing in the Rooms Search Results they show the date or earlier today and the length of the room in minutes.

Search Includes Replays

You may also see a carousel called Rooms You Missed which will be populated with recently happening rooms from people and clubs you follow. Some Current Carousels I have seen are:

  • People to Follow
  • Popular in ________ (Topic)
  • Clubs for You
  • Events for You

The idea with replays being discoverable is that listeners will be able to discover more targeted rooms especially for Niche topic areas.
As far as Creators they are able to:

  • Expand Your Audience
  • Get More Feedback
  • Repurpose

Captions Released on iPhone for Clubhouse

Captioning was released in English and in Beta to 12 other languages for on screen information. They are primarily using the iOS ability to create captions from the iOS feature of captioning.

This Week’s Product Release

Topics Are Being UpLeveled!

Will be launching a new and improved version of Topics / Interests. Currently there are about 150 Topics. Clubhouse has been increasing their use of Topics “under the hood” to help you find the rooms you want to see. They have been playing a larger part in the discovery features. This will be increasing and topics will have a bigger role for finding room, people, clubs.

Topics will have some of these features and designs:

  • Rooms to check out in the hallway
  • On Your Profile – they will be public if you want to display them.
  • Lets people know what you may want to talk about.
  • Use this to help you when you are looking at other profiles
  • Tap on that topic to see the results for this item
  • Ability to then tap topic and add to your own profile
  • Topics will start showing up in rooms – be able to add 3 topics
  • Tap will be active from the rooms too.
  • Help you find other related to the topic:
    • rooms
    • people
    • clubs
  • Will be active in the room replays too!

For Topics the Overall Usage includes or will include in the near future the ability to:
TAG – Clubs, Rooms, Events
TAP – wherever you see it…This will grow over time as topics are added.

If you are a leader of a Niche Community this will help your rooms to be discovered easier! Hopeful that this will lead to the growth of the room sizes as well as increasing Club Membership!

Questions & Answers

Recently Launched Features

Live Captions for iOS :

This is such a Great tool that will be helpful for many in the community.
Q. How Many Languages? A. English + 12 other languages

Q. Will Captions be available for Replays & Clips? A. Not yet but soon for captions

Q. Have you thought about making the transcripts available now that you have captions? A. Rohan: A really good idea- designed but not sure when it will be built. hopefully soon.

Q. Are there other features for captions – such as translations?
A. Yes we should do that – CH does not yet have a timeframe for that. Some of the issues that are being looked at are: speed, latency and quality, all of which they are working on overcoming to put this into place.

Shout Out from Paul Davison: Thank you to the many on the app who have helped over the last year with Accessibility including the 15% Club!

REPLAY Questions:

Q. Is there a cut off point for a room recording? A. Yes, there is a limit which is 6 hours at the present time. If there is a use case where that is not long enough please send info to Clubhouse feedback.

Q. How can I remove the rooms I was a speaker of, is there a way to remove it but make it private? A. There is no way to remove a recording and make it only for your club within the app. You of course could as the Creator – download and remove it from the app and put it in a members only area elsewhere – Some club creators are already doing this. And if you are the speaker you may be wondering how to remove an event from your profile. Speakers are able to untag yourself from any replay in the app. Go to the replay and find the (…) tap on it and a menu will come up to share or remove from your profile. Choose remove option.

Q. Should a creator be able to delete a replay that was not started by a club leader instead? A. You can do it for an event that is hosted by the club. If this feature is not working for you please report it to Clubhouse. A club admin can remove a replay from the club profile without deleting the replay. The creator of the room can delete the replay – the admin can remove the item from the club page. Club branding is removed at the same time the item is removed from the club page…

Q. Will there be a replay search? A. You can now search for replay. Please play around with it… NOTE: What will be cool is when you can search the transcripts of the replay – this was from Rohan who may have either been leaking out an upcoming feature or dreamily manifesting what he would like to see in the future. With the updates to AI I could totally see this as a possibility in the near future.

Feature Request for Replays:

Q. Would love to see a Listening Queue for Replays as well as a Listen to Later Queue? Anu, also requested auto play for the next episode on clubs you really like. A. Paul said, Yes, I would also like that. “Yeah, it’s a clear it’s clearly a missing feature right like when you so many of you have requested this and we should have this so I I’m confident saying we will add this.”

Q. Is there a way to see if replays are on from the hallway? A. Feels like this would be useful, says Paul, No design at this time.

Q. Would like a way to make a Replay Available to ClubMembers Only?
A. Great Idea! Public rooms was the best way to start… Clubs seems the natural progression for adding replays to. Especially when there are subscriptions. There is no time frame for this yet?

Q. Sound Quality: Are the replays mono? A. Not sure what the current state is – they are working on the work to make them in stereo- if they are not yet they will be.

Q. Are these townhalls being recorded – where can I access them?
A. The Replay will live on the Clubhouse HQ Club Page, as well as on any of the speakers profiles, unless they choose to remove from their profile. Replays do not show up until the room is completed. Otter.ai is also transcribing this and it is offered as a group public group list that you can join. If you do not yet have Otter please feel free to click here and get it (this is my affiliate link! – So you will be supporting the work of this blog at the same time. This was not mentioned in the town meeting this week but has been mentioned other times. It makes sense as they did not have in app recording before.)

Future Features?

Stage and Audience feedback:

Q. What is planned on this front? A. Thought about this alot. Here are some of the thoughts behind this for the philosophy to how to create feedback within the app:

  • Creator first principle.
  • What will enhance experience from the speakers. (Lens of the Speakers)
  • Polls, interactive, response of audience – definitely in future
  • Don’t want to take you out of the moment
  • Do not want to provide a vehicle to say distracting things

Prioritisation of this feature – was coming after the main structure which is now at a place where CH can now start thinking of this.

A few more thoughts around other requested features:

  1. Q. Listener Status that is more formal? A. Use the just listening feature for your photos. “Put an example of the Just Listening Profile”
  2. Q. Making it easier and adding Comfort to come on the stage?
    A. Great thing that we may pay more attention to.
  3. Q. Better Ways for Audience Reactions? A. Would want to be sure whatever we add, be it: Applause, Thumbs Up, Express Support or feelings that they are additive to speakers experience.

Discovery:

Q. What is the best way to find people on the app?
A. BuddyBar/Sidebar Swipe right to left or tap on grid of dots lower left. If open to starting a room – tap the wave to let them know that you are available. More ways may come in the future.

Q. Could there be a Recent Room Section, so that even if no one is currently still listening in the hallway but had been in there that is someone you are following then it would show up to find it easier?
A. Great Idea something to think about and look at. Until then a reminder: from the Explore tab – there is an icon in the upper right of the screen – for people you have recently listened to.

Start from the Room – go to the hallway then you will see the item on the left. After you click on the compass you will see the item on the right and you can click on that icon to show a list of people you have recently been in a room with. The list will be all those who were on the stage – not those in the audience.

Clubhouse is currently having a good look through the app’s architectural layout and thinking about overall look and navigation patters. [this statement makes me feel like there may be some updates in the near future to the layout and design of the User Interface. (the UI)

Design and Organisation Questions?

Q. Have you thought about splitting the hallway by topics or clubs?
A. Yes have thought about that. Rooms, Replays, Carousels, Stories of Happening Items, RSVP and how they are displayed and show up. Some of the thoughts are around how does the app progress? What should the hallway look like? With new features the limits may feel pushed for some of the systems.

Q. Darkmode to Clubhouse? A. We have always had such a small team – so its not been in the importance of the creative process as much as finding rooms, pinned links, search. All of these features that have been the focus are for helping people finding great rooms in Search, therefore, the focus was on that first. AND… Yes, dark mode would be a good add.

Analytitics

Q. What are some of the Analytics that will be offered? A. Some of the different areas that Analytics could be offered would be for:

  • Live Rooms
  • Replays
  • What to Show to Everyone vs Mods?
  • What attribution is for live vs replays?

Other things Clubhouse is looking at: What creates the best experience for everyone? If in the hallway what best informs the tap to help you know what you want to join? One of the things that seemed more important was to know the difference from a 3 person vs 3k person room as each of those would definitely give a different vibe…

After that, looking from listener perspective as to what is useful to know & additive for enhancing the experience. Clubhouse philosophy applied to analytics would look like this: Focus on actionable analytics. Some things are interesting but not useful. Want to focus on things that will help you make changes and grown your audience over time. Such as:

  • Time to Host Room,
  • Specific to Audience,
  • Topic to Add to Room,
  • Which Guests most compelling,
  • Which Speakers to Bring Up?

Want to help you with those decisions in a way that is helpful for creating engaging conversation and connections whether replay or live.

Short form versions of Clubhouse?

Q. More Bite sized content or how to tie back to longer convos?
A. Not sure what the answer is to this yet. A clip is a portion of the room. Sometimes you may want to share the whole room. Sometimes you want to share a piece of the room. It is a fascinating idea.

NOTE: The ability to refer to a specific point in a room will be one of the first items that may be available. Complex design challenge with many puzzle pieces. Stay Tuned! (Separate Townhall for this one was a comment made by Anu)
